Sewing and Gardening

I told you I was addicted! Look what I made!
2 fully lined bubbles
A little A-lined dress (panties to match are on my sewing machine as I type this)
And this super cute two piece outfit that ties in the back - also fully linedBetween emergency calls to my mom when I didn't know what to do next and spending Monday with my friend Jennifer who guided me through elastic and ruffles (and did all the monogramming:)) I finished these four outfits for Gracie. I am beyond proud of myself and can't wait to make more! (A HUGE shout out of thanks to Jeremy who kept all 3 kiddos on Monday -all day - so that I could have a sew day all to myself. He did lunch, dinner, baths and bedtime like a pro - he may do my job better than I do!) I already have the fabric to make a little lady bug dress with red gingham bloomers to match - too cute!

Jeremy has been working on planting lots of yummy things in our garden and of course the boys love to help :)
Do they look like they are working hard or what? I think John-Mark was complaining about needing a water break - ha! They have no idea what all their Daddy has planned for them to help him do around here in the years to come :)

And here is our little princess that has inspired this sewing addiction enjoying her exersaucer - more than playing with the toys she just like being able to see her brothers run around her!

Made by mommy :)

Here it is - Gracie's first dress made by mommy!
Considering this was the first thing I've ever sewn I'm pretty proud -it's a pretty simple pattern but I added the extra ribbon on the bottom and had a friend monogram for me. I made it long so she can wear it for a long time :) - and I'm addicted! I have 4 more dresses/bubbles/outfits in the works. I've got a friend that is going to teach me how to put in elastic and make bloomers! Speaking of bloomers - how cute are these:)
Kisses with daddy :)

Boys will be boys...

I've posted often about the great benefits of my boys being so close in age and being able to send them outside and have them entertain each other like this:

But some days, boys will be boys and if I turn my back for one minute this is what I find:
I went inside to put a load of laundry in and when I returned I realized that the boys had found a small puddle of water and decided they wanted to cover themselves in it (mostly John-Mark :)) When Jeremy came home he asked "is his shirt stained or is that from today?" ha ha - all today, all today. Some of you may see what my children are wearing sometimes and be thinking, "what is she thinking" but as you can see our play clothes have it pretty rough so I have a pile of mismatched, stained, torn, etc. clothes that we wear to play at the house in.

And while the boys were having a blast in the mud - sweet Gracie girl was takin' it easy inside - look at her little crossed ankles - eat. her. up!
The weather has been absolutely beautiful here lately - the past couple of days have been sunny with high's in the low 70's - perfect - EXCEPT for the pollen! It's out of control. All of us are congested and snotty and can't seem to get over it since it's just too nice to stay inside, yet being outside only makes our congestion worse! We're supposed to have a good rain soon - hopefully that will help clear things up.

Oh - and for memory sake - this week the boys started napping together in their room so Gracie has her room all to herself now :) So far they are doing pretty good. One day John-Mark woke up before James but I got him up before he disturbed him and today James woke up first and John-Mark is still in his crib snoring away :)

Visit with Mom-Mom and Papa Steve

Last Thursday we went for a couple of days to visit with Mom-Mom and Papa Steve. The boys LOVE their grandparents and the fact that they have two super cute little puppies (Schatzi and Ben-Ben) is a bonus :) We went to a local children's museum and the boys had tons of fun. They had lots of hands on things for them to explore. My camera died about half way through the trip so I only have pics from the first part of the visit :( We also went to the Botannical Gardens and they are having this super fun tree house exhibit. They have over 10 tree houses located throughout the gardens that the boys got to climb all over! They each have different themes - some even had slides you could ride down from the tree - I wish my camera hadn't died - it really was a lot of fun - I think we'll have to take them there again before the exhibit closes.
Playing a little checkers before we go in the museum - I've found that when I am taking the boys somewhere that I think there may be a lot of children it's easiest for me to have them in matching shirts so I can find them easily instead of having to remember what both of them are wearing. I know that sounds crazy - how hard is it to remember what two boys are wearing but when things get crazy and tons of kids are running around I can't keep track :)
James and mom-mom working in the garden :)

They have a big water table here - we have a simliar one at one of our local children's museum and the boys love it! They could play at this for hours - and soak themselves in water in the process :)

Learning about musical instruments - you pushed a button on each instrument and it played for you - my boys also LOVE anything musical
John-Mark cuttin' a rug :)
Nothing like a little ride on a cow :)
Gracie was with us but she slept through this part of the trip. Here she is in one of the new play outfits that mom-mom made her - My mom is an amazing seamstress and I've never cared much about learning but now that I have this sweet baby girl I want to learn how to make her all the cute things I see at all the little boutiques but don't want to spend her college fund on :) I actually made her two dresses this weekend that are super cute - I'm adding some finishing touches then I'll post pics :)

Baseball Boys

As you know we are all about baseball around here. My boys love baseball so much that they will sit down and watch "boys playing baseball" on the tv for hours if I would let them! How crazy is that!?! James loves to show me how the boys stand when they throw the ball and how they hike one leg up when they throw. Most nights when Daddy gets home they practice hitting off their tee. Guess I better learn to like baseball - looks like I've got a lot of it in my future - dear God please let Gracie do something other than play softball :)
Action Shots :)John-Mark getting his ball set upSittin' with the coach :)Who are these big boys? Especially John-Mark - is it me or is he looking more and more like a big boy !?! He put these shoes on all by himself - they are James' so they were easier to fit on his feet but he was very proud of himself.Have I mentioned lately how much I LOVE these boys being so close in age - I'm no longer needed to push them - they can take care of each other!
Lastly, yesterday I sat Gracie in her bumbo here in the door so she could look outside. John-Mark was outside and I got up to go take James to the potty - when I came back John-Mark was off playing and Gracie had these crocs on:I guess John-Mark decided she needed shoes! Too cute! John-Mark loves when she sits in the door like this - he'll come up and tell her he loves her and kiss her... which she loves!

Our Conversation

James: Do you hear that mommy?
Me: Hear what?
James: Hear that singing?
I come outside to see what he is talking about and I hear, off in the distance an ice cream truck
Me: Where is that coming from?
James: The moon. Up in the sky (as he points up to show me) The moon is singing a song
Me: Oh, he is. What is he singing
James: A B C's
I could EAT HIM UP!!!

Gracie Girl is 5 months old!

She looks as surprised as I am! I can't believe she's really 5 months! And check out the bow! I finally broke down and bought her the little bow headband -it's cuter than I thought it would be :)
It feels like Gracie has changed more this past month than she did the entire first three months of her life! I have to laugh at myself - the Lord has shown me over and over that worrying about something is so pointless yet I continue to let myself get lost in my worries. When Gracie was a newborn she didn't really start reacting to me and smiling until she was 8 or 10 weeks old while the boys were more like 6/7 week smilers - so I worried. She rarely made eye contact - so much so that I would try to get right in her face and follow where her eyes went to make her look at me and she would look away! - so I worried. I had always heard that girls are way more eye contact, face to face babies - so I worried. Here's where I laugh - she is now such a face to face baby. She loves to have your eyes locked with hers and your focused attention. You are always sure to get a smile out of her if you lock eyes with her. She loves to goo and giggle when you talk to her. I could talk and entertain her for hours - when she starts laughing I get so tickled which just makes her laugh more - we are having so much fun with her! She has become so vocal - she is also in the "rasberry blowing" stage -
She continues to be such a sweet baby. She loves to be in the middle of her brothers so she can see everything they are doing. She gets upset when they walk out of the room and she can't see them anymore. She is dying to be able to sit up on her own. Whenever I put her in her bouncy seat or any reclined position she strains sooo hard to pull her neck up so she can sit up. She loves to be outside and go for walks in her stroller - lucky for her because we're outside alot!
The biggest thing that makes her seem so much older to me is that she is no longer sleeping in her swaddle! We are swaddlers here at the Allen house and our babies always sleep so well all swaddled up but she was obviously ready to move on because every morning I was finding her totally out of it! I was a little scared that she wouldn't sleep as well without it but she's doing great. She's sleeping in a sleep sack now at night and she's taking her last bottle at 7, then we play for an hour or so and put her to bed. She totally goes right to sleep and she's been sleeping until 7 or later in the morning. She doesn't even fuss in the morning at all. I usually go in to check on her and she's wide awake just looking at her mobile and when she sees me I get that big grin - LOVE IT!!
Oh those crazy brothers!
Gracie helping mommy do the dishes - like I said, as long as she's in the middle of whatever is going on she's happy as can be.
Oh Gracie Belle - we love you so much and are so thankful God chose you to be in our family! What did we do without you!?!
I'm not sure how much she weighs but she's 25" long. Wearing 6-9 month clothes for the most part. They are a little big through the middle but they are long enough for her. I don't think she's abnormally long or anything but a lot of her 6 month jumpers are short on her. It feels like she was so tiny at birth and then moved to 3 month clothes and stayed in those for months and then she totally passed 6 months and went straight to 6-9 mo clothes - that's why I have a hard time buying clothes too far in advance. She has started rolling over from her back to her tummy on occasion. Not often but I have found her on her tummy a couple of mornings when I laid her down on her back the night before.

God is so good!

Yesterday we enjoyed a wonderful Easter with friends, family, lots of food and lots of fun! God is so good and I am so thankful for ALL he has done in our lives.
We went to our usual 8am service and then headed home for a family Easter Egg hunt and give the boys their Easter surprises.
Instead of writing a book I'm going to narrate through pictures of the day- (a note about their clothes - the boys did have nice Easter clothes that they wore to church but they changed in to play clothes as soon as they got home and actually went through two sets of play clothes before they changed back into their Easter outfits for dinner with grandparents. I consider myself pretty good at handling a lot of things but trying to keep my kids from getting their clothes dirty is not one of them so we spend LOTS of time in play clothes - even on "fancy" days :))
The boys realized pretty quickly that there were jelly beans in their eggs so it took them forever to find all of the eggs because they had to stop, open each egg and eat the jellybean before they were motivated to look for another egg. Our boys get very little candy so a handful of jellybeans were a HUGE treat to them!
Next we headed off to have lunch with some friends that have a wonderful house on small lake and have neighbors with several horses that you can walk over and feed! The boys had a great time.
We had bread to feed the fish but John-Mark (who had just eaten lunch) decided he needed to eat the bread more than the fish did. Silly Turkey - apparently we have called him that a lot because anytime he does something silly that is what James calls him -
Doin' a little fishing with daddy - notice Jeremy trying to keep John-Mark out of the water - I think he was trying to get some bread that had already gone in the water - he actually slipped in the water at one point - clothes change #2 :)
James checking out the fish daddy caught - at home when we play pretend fishing we always kiss it and throw it back but James wasn't really in to kissing a real fish :
Feeding the horsies carrots. John-Mark was TERRIFIED of the horses. As you can see there is a fence between us and then another fence between here and the house. When the horses started walking towards us John-Mark ran and did an army crawl to get under the second fence to get as far away as possible. He did ok when Jeremy held him but as soon as he put him down he was gone again!
Here's the best pic of the boys in their Easter outfits - napping in the car going from the Benedicts to Papa and Noni's house
I had a sweet dress for Gracie to wear but it was more work to keep her from spitting up on it so we saved it for her 6 month pics. Here she is chilling with Daddy - love those little feet :)
The boys and Papa - best pic I could get :)
My big boy :(
This morning the got up bright and early and went outside to play with thier new rake, shovel, hoe, and wheel barrow they got for Easter. They spent the entire morning shoveling gravel and moving it around the driveway - I love boys - so easy to entertain :)
And while the boys were working the morning away Gracie got in a little nap - it's rare that we're home in the mornings so this was a nice surprise for her :) I think I have another thumb sucker - and check out the hand over the head - she loves to have her face covered when she's sleeping - if she doesn't have a blanket over her face she'll do it herself-
Lastly, here's a funny pic of my silly turkey - he thinks he's sooo funny walking around in mommy's shoes :)

A couple of memories I don't want to forget-
James is having trouble with his tr sound and says f instead so fire truck is fire fruck - but the r often is missed - I know it's bad but it cracks us up
James has officially become a backseat driver - he tells me "this way mommy" about 50x a day and points me in the direction he thinks we should go. He also has started telling John-Mark "we're almost there John-Mark, don't go to sleep"
Yesterday the boys were eating lunch at a little table and James was getting up and feeding John-Mark and telling him - "just two more bites" - and John-Mark was eating! Maybe next time I have trouble with his eating I need to get James to stand in :)
James' favorite kids show right now is Imagination Movers on Disney and every morning when it goes off he tells me "no mommy, more movers" to which I respond that they have to go to work and he tells me "oh, go make money?" Yep, go make money - we jokingly tell daddy this every morning as well.
John-Mark has become Mr. Polite - he always tells you "Bless You" whenever anyone sneezes. He also is very good about saying please and thank you almost all the time. He'll tell James thank you 100x a day whenever he gives him a toy or a drink or anything like that.
While I don't think he looks just like me it is very apparent that he has my hair and every day that he's outside it gets lighter and lighter like mine was as a child. If it wasn't for the fact that James' hair was so light I would go so far as to say his hair is getting blond :)
