Don't want to forget - James

This post is really more for me and for the sake of remembering. These babies are growing up so fast and I already realize so many things I have forgotten about with James from when he was Gracie's age. I know I can't write down EVERYTHING that they do but I'm going to start doing more posts like these for each one of my babies periodically so I won't forget :) Today is all about James - my first born, my sweet, sweet boy that loves his mommy and daddy sooo much that we can't leave him without "hug, kiss, hug, kiss - one more time, mommy, squeeze" - I love him! It seems like overnight he has started talking sooo much more - which gives me sooo many things that I don't ever want to forget :)
The two pics are of my silly boy with the top to his "snack trap" cup around his leg. John-Mark watched him and later in the day - several hours later when I went to give them baths, when I took off John-Mark's pants he had this thing on his leg - who knows how long it had been there - whatever is fun for brother must be fun for John-Mark too :)

- James has started to really sing a lot! Jeremy and I LOVE it because we love to sing too! It's like all the songs we've been singing to him since he was a baby he's starting to sing with us! He loves to sing Jesus loves me - but just that part - over and over and over; he loves singing Happy Birthday and he'll pick different family members and friends to sing to each time - sometimes it's pretty random who he will think of that he wants to sing Happy Birthday to. Most mornings I make the boys oatmeal and add a little brown sugar to it and it makes me think of that song "brown sugar" - which is the only part of the song I know so I'll sing that and then kind of hum something. James has started singing this as well except he adds "oh yea, oh yea" I have no idea where he got that from! Hysterical!
- As most of you that know me well are aware I am a chapstick-aholic. I have chapstick in a drawer in every room, every purse, and diaper bag we own. Now whenever James sees me putting it on he runs over and must have some too, which means John-Mark must have some as well. This is also the case whenever James sees me putting lotion on my hands -
- "Too big mommy, too big" this is what I hear anytime I try to give him a bite of something he thinks is "too big" - it's just cracks me up the way he says it - so matter of fact.
- Yesterday I was having one of those "Calgon, take me away" moments due to the extreme crying that was going on in my house :) Honestly, in pure desperation as I was walking through the house, at my wits end with all the crying I cried out "Jesus, help!" - this was all I could think to do to keep me from "loosing it"! Ofcourse James was right on my heels and heard this - now everyday, atleast 10 times a day he says to me "Jesus help mommy"- my reply "Yes, James, Jesus does help" then we go in to how Jesus can help us today - patience, sharing, not whining, the list goes on. As I tried to explain to James what patience was I told him it means when we wait for things without whining about it so last night he told me "Jesus help mommy, patience, wait just a minute" :)

Lazy Sunday's

This Sunday we went to 8am church then headed home for a little breakfast and everyone went down for an early nap - I was even able to lay in the bed and read for a bit - what a great morning :)
John-Mark was unavailable for pictures - he was sound asleep in his room and I didn't want to risk waking him up to grab a picture :)

Gracie has started playing in her exersaucer throughout the day. She's not quite big enough for it so I put a blanket around her and a little box under her feet that she can reach. She's at the age where she's awake more and wants to be up and looking around but she's not sitting up on her own and she's kind of over her bouncy seat so the exersaucer seems to be a good solution. Ofcourse her brothers were excited to see the return of the exersaucer and Gracie loves to watch them play around it as much as anything.
And guess who else found his way in to the exersaucer - here we go again!:)
And here's the most fabulous biggest brother ever!! CHEESE!Sweet John-Mark actually wearing Gracie's bib but it works for him too :)And ofcourse the sweetest little girl I know - Gracie Belle!

Funny story - Sunday at church James' teacher asked Jeremy what Gracie's middle name was because James had told her it was "Bill"! We both cracked up - I'm sure he was telling her Gracie's name is Gracie-Belle and she had no idea what he was saying and heard Bill!

Busy Boys! 2 1/2 and 1 1/2, oh my!!!

Some days my life feels pretty crazy and chaotic but most days we find ourselves a pretty good flow and are able to enjoy most of the day - and when these boys aren't testing their boundaries (well, sometimes even when they are) they keep me cracking up a good part of the day. They are two busy, busy boys whose minds are always thinking about what or how they are going to do something next. They love to mimic us, especially their daddy and of course each other! Case in point, James has a blanket he calls his "nanny" (don't know where that came from but that's what he calls it) and he sleeps with it and anytime he has it in his hands he usually holds it close to his face and also sucks his thumb. John-Mark until recently hasn't really cared about his blanket but in the last couple of months he's started bringing me blankets and calling them his "nanny". He's funny because unlike his brother who has one very special nanny, john-mark thinks any blanket will work - just as long as he has one, like his brother does. Then we've noticed that he puts it in his mouth a lot and we figured it was just because that's john-mark - always putting something in his mouth (our little billy goat, as we affectionately call him) and then I realized that he is totally mimicking his big brother. He can't see that James is sucking his thumb because the way he holds his blanket over his face and thumb so he just assumed he must be putting it in his mouth of course! The thing about James and the thumb sucking is that he rarely ever does it without that nanny so John-Mark really probably doesn't even realize he's doing it - thank goodness or we would probably have another thumb sucker on our hands :)
Fun updates on the boys:
James is just now 2 1/2 and he looks more and more like a big boy everyday. The first time I put him in big boy underwear I almost cried! He looks so big with those long skinny legs running around the house! Where did those chubby baby legs go? Potty training is still a work in progress. I've started moving the potty in to the room we are playing in so he can see it and run over and tee-tee when he needs to, thinking maybe that will help. He does a good job but he's not 100% and he's not ready to leave the house without a diaper yet - and maybe I'm not either - I just can't imagine what I'm going to do when we're in publix or at chick-fil-a and he needs to go - how I'm going to do it with two other little ones! We'll figure it out I'm sure.
He is doing really good with is alphabet and recognizes a lot of letters now. Jeremy was watching the news this morning and the ticker was running across the bottom with news updates and he was having so much fun pointing out all the "E"'s as they went by - he loves E and M right now - they seem to be his favorite letters :) He can also tell me what sounds most letters make thanks to the Leap Frog alphabet video. I put an alphabet poster and United States map up for us to play/learn with. The map has pictures of things that are representative of each state, like Alabama has a space shuttle, which James thinks is an airplane so I'll ask him to point to Alabama and he will and then proceed to run around the house like he's an airplane. He can also point out Florida because that's where the "gators" are :)He's also still working on his numbers - he loves to count things but he likes to start at 3 instead of 1 for some reason :)
James loves to sing, dance, play his guitar and pretend he's playing the drums with anything in sight:) We have lots of songs that we sing together but he won't sing them totally by himself - sometimes when I start singing a song he doesn't want me to sing he'll say - "no singing mommy" - guess I don't sound as much like Whitney Houston as I've always thought - ha! He also hates for me to be tired. If he sees me yawn or lay me head back on a chair he comes over "no tired mommy, no sleep!" I'll pretend like I'm sleeping and he'll come over and lift my head and try and make me get up - because I'm really just that fun! :)
We continue to work on first time obedience but haven't really mastered it yet :) He does however continue to like to be a third parent to John-Mark and try to discipline him. I have to regularly remind him that he's not a mommy or daddy and he needs to take care of himself and let mommy take care of John-Mark. It cracks me up though because he totally knows all the rules and what punishments are for what "crimes" and is pretty spot on when it comes to disciplining John-Mark - if only he disciplined himself so well :)
John-Mark! What a fun boy he is! Even as "challenging" as he is to keep in line he is so fun! I think this age - 18 months may be my favorite age. He's still little enough to be my baby but he's starting to really communicate and it's just fun to finally get to hear what goes on in their little heads. He's actually getting much better at obeying us. For a while there it seemed like he must have been deaf the way he totally ignored what we asked him to do (which we knew was not the case) so it appears that it's true - consistency is the key because as we've just continued to work with him and he's starting to listen and obey - not without some testing still ofcourse :) He is loving getting to be a little helper just like his big brother. He likes to put things in the trash and go and get me a diaper when I need it. He also likes to bring me things all day long that need to be put away and tell me "tank you!" He is very good about saying thank you - without much direction from us he just started saying it whenever we give him his milk or a toy - so polite :)
He has also started with the "hold you" which means I now have two little boys at my feet saying "hold you" much of the day while Gracie says it not so sweetly at the same time too - I need octopus arms sometimes!
John-Mark loves to be around people but he's also very content to go off in a corner and do his own thing - this is different from his brother. Sometimes I'll find him just hanging out in his room flipping through books and I'll walk in and he'll look up and give me this big grin and then go back to his "reading". It's so interesting to see that how as many ways these boys are very similar they are so different as well.
The snow has finally melted away and the boys are starting to feel much better so they got to play outside this morning and "help" daddy get some things done - here are some pics of my busy boys in action - they've missed being able to run around outside this past week!
"Let me move this big piece of wood like daddy would:)"Checking out his drillReally checking out his drill :)Wild man doing a dance on his picnic table while John-Mark is dying to get on it with him!
Finally up - everybody dance!

And lastly, yesterday we had a bit of an incident at our house - it could have been very bad but thank God the only thing that was injured was our door. James tripped and went head first into the glass portion of the door - thankfully he was wearing his Alabama cap and that's what hit the glass instead of his bare forehead. As you can see he busted the glass up pretty good - but thankfully he doesn't even have a bruise to show for it - it just scared us both! Praise God he's and Alabama fan :)

February Snow 2010

Yesterday we got about 3-4" of snow! It started snowing around 10am and kept coming down until late in the day. Both the boys have had runny noses so we didn't get to play out in it all day like I'm sure they would have loved but they still had fun. Gracie didn't get to make it out this year - hopefully we'll get a little bit next year :) It's unique for Alabama that there has been snow cover the ground every year since James was born - I hope it happens when he's older and can really enjoy and remember it! Here are some fun pics of their snow experience!

Gracie Belle is 3 months; Bubba and Peanut :)

Unbelievably to me Gracie is 3 months old today! Wow - I feel like I just had her. She continues to be her sweet little self. I feel like I don't do nearly as much with her as I did with James and even John-Mark - she still hangs out in her bouncy seat a lot of the day. She sits in her bumbo throughout the day as well but she gets tired of that after about 5 minutes or so. Her head control has gotten really good but she's still not ready for the exersaucer or bouncy seat. I tried to bring the activity mat out for her to explore but the boys drove me crazy trying to get under it with her and tripping on her so I just put it away. I think about all these toys and things we have for little babies now - what did our moms do to keep us entertained!?! Thinking about that makes me realize she'll be okay if she's not able to do a circuit of activities a day :)
She loves to stick that tongue out!

Saturday night we went to a birthday party at The Jump Zone - I wasn't sure how the boys would do - on halloween we went to a fall festival with bouncy houses and they would only do the ones you jump in - none of the climbing ones. Well, boy have they come a long way since then. They climbed ALL over that place! John-Mark was the funniest to me. The party was for a 5 year old so my boys were obviously the smallest ones out there and John-Mark looked tiny compared to all the other kids but he went straight up to things and started climbing up. They had one of those big slides - probably about 25 ft up and then a fast slide down - no fear these boys have - both of them probably slid about 50x each! I totally forget my camera but we will have to go back there again soon - it actually wore them out and even John-Mark slept in the next day! Let me say how much I love watching my boys play together (and Gracie soon enough). They are by no means shy boys but I love that they always have each other to turn to if they need to. Having been an only child I missed not having a brother or sister a lot. They were pretty independent and on their own at this party but every now and then I would see them look around for each other or go check out what the other was doing and play together for a bit.
Both boys have had a cold this week - just coughs and runny noses but I'm ready to be totally healthy again! Thankfully Gracie hasn't gotten it so far. John-Mark has started telling or asking us if we're "ok?" whenever he or we cough or sneeze - so cute - it feels like just yesterday James was doing that. He's also started telling us he loves us - this is something he is most definitely doing sooner than James - I love it!
What's the deal with Bubba and peanut? Well, somehow those have become the boys nicknames from Jeremy and James has caught on to it. If you ask him "what does daddy call you, John-Mark and Gracie?" He'll tell you "Bubba, Peanut, and Gracie-Belle". When Jeremy comes home from work or gets up in the morning a lot of times James will run to him and say "hey bubba!" before Jeremy can say it and then he'll turn to John-Mark and say "hey peanut!" He's so stinkin' cute!
Not sure how much John-Mark was helping Daddy fix the sink but he sure was enjoying it!
While we're potty training James runs around the house a lot in a shirt, big boy underwear and his socks - I cracked up when I saw him sitting like this wathcing Sesame Street and had to grab a pick :)

Gracie Belle and the Boys

I can't remember if I've posted this or not but Gracie has become our Gracie-Belle - we all call her that all the time - every morning James goes in her room and in this high pitched voice (mimicking mommy :)) He says "Morning Gracie-Belle". I've made up a song with her name that goes to the tune of the Veggie Tales theme song that I sing to her all day long - oh how we LOVE our Gracie-Belle!
James loves to hold her and every time he does he tells me "picture mommy, cheese" - do you think he's had a few pics taken of him in his short life :)
John-Mark is getting so big and has been talking up a storm - I feel like he's talking a lot more than James was at this age but I could be crazy. What he's saying most - "hold you, please, tank you, goldie (our dog), mo (milk), beau and zach (2 friends), and mommy and daddy of course. He also calls James bubba. It seems like everyday he's saying something new.
James is also talking much more clearly and in more complete sentences. A couple of days ago they were staying with their Papa and John-Mark hit him with a play phone in the head and James looked up and said "do I have a bruise?" - too funny. He answers me very directly on everything I ask him - "James, what is John-Mark doing", "eating dirt" - oh, ok, sure enough, he's eating dirt. He'll ask me something and if I tell him no he'll say "how about ..." -cracks me up because this is what I do "james, do you want to color? no, how about paint..." He's also playing pretend a lot more. He tells me all the time "bye mommy, see ya' yater - going to the store to get more nanna's - hugs and kisses" then he hops on one of his cars and heads to the store. Speaking of banana's sometimes I think I'm raising monkeys around here - I can't keep bananas in the house. I'm seriously at the store twice a week to get more!
Potty training is coming along - we're just doing a couple hours a day in his big boy underwear and he's starting to tell me when he has to go - sometimes not quite in time but we're making progress. I know lots of people do that whole 3 day potty training bootcamp and get it done but that's just not going to work for us. It's probably going to take us several weeks or months to get there but we'll get there. John-Mark is also starting to run to the bathroom door and yell "potty" and I'll let him sit on the potty - he's not ready yet but I hopeful that they'll both be done by their 2nd and 3rd birthdays! Oh the money we'll save in diapers! Now if I can just get Gracie trained by her 1st birthday - ha! just kidding!
Here are some pics of my sweet babies!
Chillin' out in Mommy & Daddy's bed
James is trying to get a "grinner" out of Gracie by tickling her cheek like mommy always does :)Sitting up like a big girl in her bumbo seatHow big is this little man getting? He looks like such a big boy to me!The dirt eater :)
